Sisters. Last night, after a very long & exhausting day, I was just about ready to climb under the covers and call it a night when my phone buzzed. When I picked it up I found a text from baby sister.
I love you Cara! You are the best big sister I could ask for… You have always been there for me and will keep being there… I miss you and was just thinking about you and wanted to let you know how much I love you.
She sent it thinking that I would already be asleep & that I would wake up to it in the morning, which I would have been if it weren’t for my procrastination in doing homework for grad school. It would have been nice to start my day off with such sweet words, but it was just as nice to end my day with them. It’s always nice to know that you’re loved & appreciated. It doesn’t take over-the-top gifts. Sometimes it’s the smallest gestures that mean the most. And for the record, I love you more, baby sister!!
Trunk Show & Giveaways. Don’t forget to place an order via my online trunk show by the end of the day today so that you can be entered to win a $50 Stella & Dot gift card. Who doesn’t want an extra 50 bucks to spend on jewelry?? I know I do!!

Thursday. I’m a little a lot exhausted this morning, but it was well worth it!! The Rodeo was a blast, as always. It was armed forces day, so there were uniformed men & women all around, and they did an awesome tribute to them at the beginning of the concert.
We started off with a trip to the horse stalls to visit some friends who are horse trainers. I would love to work with horses everyday. I know it’s not easy, but I can’t begin to tell you how much I love being around them. They are incredible animals. Rio & I [the horse pictured] became bffs in two seconds flat, although he did try to drink my beer at one point. I forgave him;)
Then it was off to the carnival to enjoy some deliciously bad-for-you fried goodness. Corn dogs, fried oreos, fried pop tarts, funnel cakes, and chocolate covered bacon were all consumed & every bite was worth the calories!!
Then came Rodeo time! Bull riding, barrel racing, mutton bustin’, etc. If you don’t know what mutton bustin’ is, I suggest you google it! It’s so adorable & too much fun to watch. When the events were over it was time for the show. Alan Jackson put on an incredible show. It was his 21st time performing at the Houston Rodeo. Amazing! Say what you want about country music, but I have never been to a country concert and been disappointed. They are true musicians with true talent that put on amazing live shows. And you could hear a pin drop in a stadium full of thousands when he sang Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning) in honor of the troops. It was a touching moment that I’m very glad to have witnessed.
So, yes, I’m exhausted this morning, but I’m glad I am. It was a great night with great people. Can’t ask for much more.
Eating Everything. In the past 45 minutes I’ve eaten a pizza, a bag of Doritos, and Oreos. What is wrong with me?? I guess I’m just warming my tummy up for all the fried goodness that I will be consuming this evening at the rodeo. One thing that’s safe to say… my body will definitely be hating me after this day.
Wednesday. Is it 3:30 yet?? Right after work today I’m heading to one of my favorite events of all time, The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo!!! Tonight is Armed Forces night & Alan Jackson is performing, but if I’m being honest, I’m most excited about the shopping, all the fried food, seeing some horses, and of course, my favorite rodeo event, mutton bustin’. The end of my work day can’t come soon enough!
And ladies, don’t forget to shop my Stella & Dot trunk show. If you shop by tomorrow you’ll be entered for the chance to win a $50 Stella & Dot gift certificate!
Trunk Show & Giveaway(s). A couple years ago I discovered Stella & Dot and fell in love. I fell so hard that I actually became a stylist, and for a short time, I had my own little Stella & Dot side business. It was a great experience, but it turned out that being a stylist wasn’t really for me. I like buying jewelery much more than I liked selling it! Although I no longer work for the company I still love their products, and lucky for me I still have an in with a stylist who asked me to host my very own online trunk show. Not only is this a chance for you to buy yourself some lovely new accessories for the spring & summer, but you’ll also be entered in not one, but two giveaways!
The first giveaway is a $50 Stella & Dot gift certificate for anyone who places an order on or before February 28th, which is tomorrow. I will announce the winner of the gift certificate on Friday, March 1st.
The second giveaway is the Eden Bangle [pictured above in the top photo]. To be entered in this giveaway you must place an order anytime between now and Friday, March 8th. The winner of the Eden Bangle will be announced on Monday, March 11th.

So ladies, it’s that simple! Buy yourself a little something pretty & you may win! Happy Shopping!!!
Pet Peeve. When people send a wedding invitation, baby shower invitation, or any invitation for that matter to my mom’s house addressed to me, her, and baby sister. I am 28 years old. I haven’t lived with my mom for a few years, and I have never lived in the house she lives in now. In fact, I have lived in my apartment for longer than mama has lived in her new home. If you don’t know my address, ask!! You wouldn’t mail an invite to a married or engaged couple to them & their parents so don’t do it for single people either.
Tuesday. Yesterday afternoon I received a sweet surprise in the mail. After a postal mishap, my Valentine’s gift from mama finally arrived!! It may be a little bit late, but the way I see it I got to celebrate Valentine’s all over again! Thanks, mama!
Now, on to today… It was beyond difficult to get out of bed this morning with that cute puppy face willing me to stay. Don’t these dogs realize how impossible they make it to leave them?? But somehow I managed to peel myself out of bed and make it in to work. Today should be a good day. My second graders are on their field trip, so I have an extra hour of student free time!! That makes me one happy lady! Happy Tuesday y’all:)
Weekend Happenings. This was a make-up free, homework free, stress free weekend, and the closest I got to wearing real clothes is the outfit pictured. I spent Saturday lounging around the house. I napped, cuddled with the puppies, & caught up on my shows. It was amazing! Sunday was spent outside: took the pups on a trail walk followed by a Tex-mex lunch on a patio [Rodeo Specials means my favorite time of year in Houston is upon us!], & then some reading on my porch. I also fit in a morning & afternoon work-out which were much needed after a very lazy week. It was the perfect relaxing weekend that everyone needs to indulge in from time to time.
Whine Fest 2013. In regards to my previous post, I just have to say that I did not write that as a ‘woe is me’ type post. I just had to get my feelings off my chest and out into the universe. I’ll survive, but a break is sorely needed!! Thanks for the support :)
Wednesday. I am tired, cranky, and in an all around bad mood. My kids are driving me insane, & I don’t want to do any of the things I should be doing for work. I’ve been in a funk the past couple of weeks and I’m ready for it to be over. I feel like I can’t function properly. All I want to do is curl up in a ball and be left alone. Unfortunately, being a teacher means I’m very rarely left alone. I’m putting on a brave & smiling face for them, but I need a break. I need some me time to recharge & regroup.
Unsettling. It’s always upsetting to hear about a teacher having an inappropriate relationship with his/her students, but when that teacher worked at the school right down the road from yours, a school that your own students feed into, it’s 100 times more unsettling. I will never understand teachers who have inappropriate relations with a student. Teachers are supposed to be someone that students can trust and feel safe with. It makes me sick that there are people out there that take advantage of their very important role as an educator.
